Dhanush Takes Nayanthara To Court Over Netflix Documentary.

The production company Wunderbar Films headed by actor Dhanush K. Raja has filed a lawsuit against actress Nayanthara, her husband Vignesh Sivan and their production company, Rowdy Pictures in Madras High Court.

The lawsuit claims that they used some scenes from the Tamil movie Naanum Rowdy Dhaan without permission in a Netflix documentary called Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale.

Wunderbar Films wants to sue Netflix too, along with Nayanthara and others for using their content without permission. Since Netflix’s Indian office is in Mumbai, Wunderbar Films has asked the Madras High Court for special permission to include Netflix in the lawsuit even though it’s based outside the court’s usual jurisdiction.

The issue started when the trailer featured a three-second clip from Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, a film produced by Dhanush.

It was on November 19 that Nayanthara, the Lady superstar issued a strong rebuttal statement against Dhanush’s legal notice over her Netflix documentary, Nayanathara: Beyond the Fairytale.

In an open letter posted on her official account, the Pan-Indian actress has condemned what she referred to as the “vengeance” Dhanush harboured over the years, particularly about the use of clips from their 2015 film, Nannum Rowdy Thaan.

She also added that it was a ‘low’ move to demand Rs 10 crore from them to use a three-second snippet of songs from the film for the documentary.

In response to Dhanush’s demand, Nayanthara’s husband, director Vignesh Shivan shared an old motivational video of Dhanush on Instagram, taking a sarcastic jab at him.

He also attached pictures of the legal notice sent to Netflix India by Dhanush’s lawyer. However, Vignesh has now deleted the post.

Meanwhile, Vignesh shared the disputed clip on his Instagram Stories, allowing everyone to watch it “for free.”

Also, Nayanthara pointed out that the disputed clip was just three seconds long, shot on a personal device and already publicly available on social media. She expressed shock at Dhanush’s demand for Rs 10 crores in damages.

The docuseries, Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairy Tale, was released on Netflix on November 18, Nayanthara’s 40th birthday.
