Sometimes things are like that in life. You will find surprises in unexpected corners. Golam, the latest Malayalam movie starring Qalb and Mike fame Ranjith Sajeev and actor-director Dileesh Pothan, directed by Samjad, is like that. Golam is a medical crime thriller which keeps you glued into the screen till the last seconds and more. Yes, the movie ends with a possibility of a sequel, though the way the makers of the movie decided to have a sequel or ended the movie with that hope is questionable, but Golam is made in a way that the movie watchers, especially those who like the crime or thriller or police genre may like the movie.
Samjad’s direction and the script by both the director and Praveen Viswanath of Golam are commendable. Only times when you feel like there in fact rooms for perfection is when the camera stays on single character and compels you to guess what has happened and how it is going to evolve. In writing, you might feel a lag at sometimes, but, the moment you realise that such a serious script needs an assertion of situation, all will fall in place for the viewer.

What makes Golam stands apart is the acting department. Ranjith Sajeev is good, but the way he manages or the director asked him to do those police characters in Tamil and Telugu, who stare at the camera for long or talks in a way that they are immortals is insufferable at times. But you won’t know, there might be police officers like that in the world where Singhams rule.
Dileesh, after O Baby and Thalavan, gets another notable role prove his mettle as a good actor. He is cruel and bloodthirsty , and more over convincing as head of syndicate that uses human as guinea pigs for their greed.

Then, there is protean Siddique. The entry of the versatile actor into the story comes at a stage when you may feel a lag in the presentation. His role as a therapist (or scientist) makes the movie more live and watchable again.
The supporting actors including Chinnu Chandni Nair, Kaarthik Shankar, Sudhi Kozhikode, Sreekanth Murali, Alencier among others have done exceptional acting that in a way helps the movie travel in its own as the plot thickens.
Aby Salvin Thomas could have reduced the noise a little bit, but, most times he is spot on.
Timeline verdict: Golam is a good choice if you like to watch a fresh crime-thriller movie. The acting, direction and the writing look much fresher in this movie which is running in theatres now.
