
Unni Mukundan's 'Marco' became the 9th highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time.
Unni Mukundan’s Marco, touted to be the most violent film in Malayalam, sparked discussions among viewers ever since its release in December 2024, with many questioning the depiction of violence in the film.
In a recent interview with Galatta Plus, actor Unni Mukundan addressed these concerns and expressed his opinions on the portrayal of violence on the big screen. The film being a massive hit also substantiates the fact that audiences tend to watch violent films. Sharing his views on the same, the actor said that violence is part of society.

Pointing to the current news reports and scenario of the society, Unni Mukundan stated that Marco didn’t even show ten percent of the violence present in our society. He said, “Violence is the undeniable part of the society.”
The actor believed that violence has been a part of human evolution and that society has achieved peace through wars. He also highlighted that the major part of the society is still facing violence. However, Unni Mukundan clarified that he is not justifying the portrayal of violence on screen and added that viewers have the maturity to understand what should be taken from a film.
Apart from Unni Mukundan, the film also features Siddique, Jagadish, Abhimanyu Shammi Thilakan, Yukti Thareja, Sreejith Ravi, and more in crucial roles. Marco, the fourth directorial venture of Haneef Adeni, marks his second collaboration with the Jai Ganesh actor after Mikhael.

Following its successful run in theaters, the film hit the OTT platform SonyLIV today, February 14.
Emerging as a blockbuster film, Marco collected Rs 102.55 crore at the box office, as per Sacnilk reports. The film received critical acclaim from both critics and audiences alike and emerged as the highest-grossing A-rated Malayalam film of all time, the sixth highest-grossing Malayalam film of the year, and the ninth highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time.
