"Have A Boy So Our Legacy Continues": Chiranjeevi's Remark Sparks Controversy (Image-X/AlwaysRamCharan)
Actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi has recently been stuck in a controversy for his comments made at the Brahma Anandam pre-release event. The actor is facing criticism as he expressed his desire for his son, Ram Charan, to have a grandson to carry on the “family legacy.”
During the pre-release event, the former union minister joked about feeling like a ladies hostel warden at home surrounded by women. He said, “When I’m at home, it doesn’t feel like I’m surrounded by my granddaughters; it feels like I am a ladies hostel warden surrounded by ladies all around.”
Even though this statement of the actor made the audience burst out in laughter, the following comment of the actor-politician didn’t seem to land well in the audience’s mind. He continued that he kept wishing and telling Ram Charan to have a boy at least this time so that their legacy continues. He also said, “I’m scared that he might again have a girl, but he has lovely kids.”

However, this remark of the actor received criticism from the fans and the netizens. While some fans defended his remarks as lighthearted banter, others criticized them for reinforcing outdated gender biases.
he’s been saying stuff like this so much lately like omg stop the talk ffs, imagine the granddaughters growing up and seeing this and feeling so bad that your own grandfather wishes you were a guy instead. Imagine the insane pressure on the male child even before he’s born. 🙏🏽

As netizens keep posting their different opinions on this issue, one user wrote, “There’s nothing wrong with wanting a boy in a house full of girls. The problem arises when someone desires only a boy and disregards having a girl. Wanting both a boy and a girl is about balance, not bias.”

Even though it’s just the actor’s opinion, netizens also condemn the choice of words, which he used to express his desire. Another user commented, “That’s totally fine. But the usage of words like “legacy” and around his grandfather was inappropriate just for this topic. We can agree to disagree!”
