Jim Carrey Cloning Conspiracy: How A Viral Rumor Took Over Social Media

Actor Jim Carrey became the centre of an unusual online conspiracy theory after appearing at the César Awards in Paris last week.

Soon after he accepted an Honorary César Award, social media was flooded with claims that the Hollywood star had been replaced by a clone or body double.

The rumours began when short video clips from the event went viral.

Some users claimed Carrey’s face looked different and said his features, voice and even eye colour did not seem the same.

Several content creators posted videos “analysing” his expressions and speech, suggesting he was not the real actor. Others connected the theory to old interviews where Carrey joked about using decoys to avoid paparazzi, twisting the comment into supposed “proof” that he uses doubles.

The conspiracy quickly grew bigger. Some posts claimed Carrey had been “cloned” because he had previously spoken about powerful secret groups like the Illuminati.

These claims spread rapidly on X and other platforms, with many users debating whether the man at the awards was really him. A drag artist, Alexis Stone, further confused people by posting an image implying she had impersonated Carrey at the event, leading even celebrities to question what was happening.

However, organisers of the César Awards and Carrey’s official representatives strongly denied the rumours.

Event officials confirmed that Carrey’s appearance had been planned months in advance. His spokesperson also clearly stated that he personally attended the ceremony and accepted the award.

At the event, Carrey delivered a speech in French, earning praise from the audience. He attended with his girlfriend, daughter and grandson. There is no evidence supporting any cloning or impersonation claims.
