Junior Mehmood died at the age of 67. The veteran actor was suffering from stage four stomach cancer. He was undergoing treatment from Tata Memorial Hospital, Parel. According to media report, Mr. Mehmood’s condition started to deteriorate and he was given oxygen. The actor’s close friend, Salam Kazi confirmed his death to ETimes. The funeral will be held today at 12 pm. He will be buried at the Juhu Muslim Cemetery.
“He was ill for two months and initially we thought he might have some minor problem but after that suddenly his weight started decreasing. And when the medical reports came, it said there was cancer in the liver and lungs and a tumour in the intestine and he has also developed jaundice. So the treatment is going on, but the doctors said it’s a stage four cancer”, said Mr. Kazi, as quoted by Time of India.
Earlier, the veteran actor has expressed his desire to meet his childhood colleagues including Jeetendra and Sachin Pilgaonkar. As soon as the message reached Jeetendra and Sachin Pilgaonkar, they came to visit him on Tuesday morning. He was also visited by comedy icon, Jhonny Lever. Jeetendra while speaking to Hindustan Times said, “I am here by his bedside, but he is unable to recognize me. He is so much in pain, he is unable to open his eyes”.
Junior Mehmood, originally known as Naeem Sayed, who began his career as a child artist later ventured into directing Marathi films. He is best known for his films ‘Brahmachari’, ‘Mera Nam Joker’ and ‘Kati Patang’.
