The bail petitions filed by the Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa and his friend Pavithra Gowda were denied by a Delhi sessions court on Monday. The actor and his friend were charged in connection with the murder of 33-year-old Renukaswamy, a fan of the actor.
The actor was arrested on June 10, when police found the body of the victim near a storm drain close to an apartment complex in Sumanahalli, Bengaluru. Upon investigation it was revealed that the victim had allegedly sent obscene messages to the prime accused of the case and the actor’s friend Pavithra, which led to the murder.

The actor’s lawyer said that there was no direct involvement of Darshan in the case, nor was he present at the time of the murder. However, the prosecution, while opposing the bail, argued that there is strong evidence in terms of technical and witness accounts against the actor.
In September, the Bengaluru police filed a comprehensive 3,991-page charge sheet implicating 17 people, including Darshan and Gowda, in the case.
Based on media reports, it is alleged that on June 8, Darshan’s bouncers killed Renukaswamy in his presence and disposed of the body in Kamakshi Palya, where he resides. When the body was discovered on June 9, it was being consumed by dogs. There were injury marks on the head and other body parts.

A security guard from a nearby apartment noticed and alerted the authorities. The weapons used for the murder was found in the garage of Darshan’s residence.
Darshan is currently in Ballary jail, having been transferred there after photos of him hanging out with three others in the Parappana Agrahara Central jail emerged online in August, sparking row over alleged preferential treatment in jail.
