Malayalam Actor Edavela Babu Arrested In Sexual Harassment Case

Malayalam actor and former office-bearer of the actors’ association AMMA, Edavela Babu, has been arrested by the Kerala Police in connection with a sexual harassment case filed by an actress. Since he has been granted anticipatory bail, he will be released after his arrest is recorded.

A case was registered against Babu under BNS Section 376. His arrest follows the arrest of veteran Malayalam actor Mukesh, who was taken into custody yesterday. Mukesh was also released on bail after his arrest. A special investigation team has been interrogating Edavela Babu in Kochi since this morning.

The Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court had earlier granted anticipatory bail to Edavela Babu. The bail was granted by a bench led by Justice Honey M Varghese. The case was filed against seven individuals, including four film stars, based on a complaint by a Kochi-based actress. The actress’s complaint alleges that the seven accused sexually assaulted her in various locations. She also revealed that Maniyanpilla Raju and Edavela Babu had spoken to her in obscene language.

According to the petitioner, the incident occurred at Babu’s Kaloor residence, where she had visited to fill out a form for AMMA membership. She also accused him of suggesting that she could gain the membership through “adjustments” rather than paying the required fee. Additionally, she stated that she stopped receiving movie offers after refusing to comply with these demands.

Based on the complaint, police also have conducted a search in Babu’s flat and the officials reportedly seized documents from the premises. The prosecution had previously informed court that Babu had been uncooperative and refused to provide key to his flat.
