The renowned Mollywood Actress Kanakalatha, who has showcased her talents through a diverse range of roles by acting in more than 350 films is now currently suffering from Dementia and Parkinson’s Disease. Kanakalatha was known for her capability to adapt to roles irrespective of the genre.
She shared screens with notable Mollywood actors like Jagathy Sreekumar, Indrans and Kalabhavan Mani. The actress never failed to leave an everlasting impression in the hearts of the viewers by her marvelous performances in the movies. She began her career by acting in amateur drama and later stepped into professional theatre mode of acting. But eventually, her life took a steep turn.
She is currently battling against a wretched disease which has took away all the glory of cinemas from her life. As per her kin, her initial stage was not much taken care of and eventually her health status worsened. Though it began with a small memory loss, now she even struggles to remember her name. The only time the actress regains her consciousness is when she sits to watches movies on TV indicating her undying passion to the world of cinemas.
Her memory loss has affected her day-to-day life to the point that she no longer recognises hunger or thirst. She even finds it difficult to swallow her own saliva. Her mobility is severely affected and, overall memory and cognitive functions have significantly declined.
In December 2021, Kanakalatha started to show symptoms of these deadly diseases. Vijayamma, her kin said that initially, she was suffering from lack of sleep. Later on, she gave up on daily routines like yoga. And upon her suggestion when they visited a psychiatrist, they recognized the bitter truth.
As part of the treatment, the actress was admitted in KIMS hospital Thiruvananthapuram for few months last year.
Chillu, Kariyilakkattu Pole, and Rajavinte Makan are few of the prominent movies that Kanakalatha has acted in. Malayalam movie “Pookkalam” is her latest release.
