Honey Rose Case: Boby Chemmanur Taken Into Police Custody

Prominent businessman Boby Chemmanur has been taken into custody following a sexual harassment case filed by Malayalam actress Honey Rose. The development comes after the actress lodged a complaint at the Kochi Central Police Station on Tuesday, accusing Chemmanur of making “repeated sexually coloured” remarks against her.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to probe the allegations. According to a senior police official, the circle inspector of the Kochi Central Station has been appointed as the lead investigator, supported by personnel from the central station and the cyber cell. The officer confirmed that non-bailable charges have been filed against Chemmanur under various sections of the IPC and Section 67 of the IT Act. “The statement of the complainant will be recorded first, followed by further necessary steps,” he added.

The case first came to light on Sunday when Honey Rose posted on Facebook, alleging harassment by an unnamed individual. She accused the person of stalking her and making inappropriate remarks across multiple media platforms. However, she refrained from revealing the identity of the accused in her initial post.

The situation escalated after Rose received offensive comments on her post. In response, she approached the Kochi Central Police, leading to the registration of a case against 30 individuals, one of whom was arrested. Subsequently, on Tuesday, the actress posted again on social media, publicly naming Boby Chemmanur as the person behind the harassment.

In her post addressing Chemmanur, Rose stated, “I have filed a complaint with the Ernakulam Central Police Station against your continuous derogatory remarks about me. I will take the same action against your supporters who share the same mentality. You can continue to rely on your wealth, but I have faith in the Indian legal system.” She also warned others with similar intentions to expect legal action.

Rejecting the accusations, Chemmanur claimed there was no misconduct on his part. He stated, “I have always interacted with her in a friendly manner and have never used any derogatory terms, as alleged.” The businessman further asserted that he behaves respectfully with women and had consulted his lawyers, who reportedly found nothing objectionable in his remarks.

Honey Rose, known for her roles in Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu films, has also submitted evidence of cyber abuse to the police. Screenshots of offensive comments targeting her on social media have been handed over to investigators. The Kochi City Police Commissioner confirmed that action is being taken against the individuals involved in the online harassment, with 20 suspects identified thus far.

The controversy stems from comments allegedly made by Chemmanur during the inauguration of a gold business establishment, which Rose criticised on Facebook for being inappropriate. This post led to a barrage of abusive remarks against her online, prompting her to file a complaint with the police.

The investigation is ongoing, and the SIT has pledged a thorough inquiry into the matter.
