
Mammootty To Be Back Next Week For Kalamkaval Duties: Source
Mammootty is coming back with full force, a source told Timeline as the actor was away from the limelight due to health reasons.
“You will see the same Mammootty with the same physic and health as you used to see him in the past,” a source from the film industry said. “Next week onwards, he will be busy with his pre-release works of Jithin K Jose directorial Kalamkaval,” he added.

Mammootty, the legendary Malayalam actor who is famous for movies like Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, Thalapathi, Mathilukal, Vidheyan, Big B and Amaram, has been the subject of health speculations throughout 2025. In March, unfounded rumours surfaced claiming he was battling colon cancer and had been hospitalised. His public relations team swiftly debunked these as “fake news,” clarifying that the 73-year-old star was simply on a break for Ramadan fasting and was in excellent health, preparing for upcoming film projects.
The situation escalated in June when Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas, a close associate, addressed fresh concerns. He confirmed Mammootty was undergoing treatment for a minor health complication but emphasised it was not serious, stating the actor was “doing well” after a recent conversation. Cancer allegations were again dismissed, with Brittas assuring fans there was no cause for alarm.

By July, positive developments emerged as a new photograph of Mammootty circulated online, depicting him in high spirits and exuding confidence. Fans hailed it as the “return of the king,” expressing relief amid the ongoing scare. Reports indicated he had fully recovered and resumed professional activities, including discussions of his disciplined diet regime.
Apart from Mammootty, Kalamkaval will feature Meera Jasmine and Vinayakan. The thriller movie is directed by debutant Jithin K. Jose, produced by Mammootty Kampany. Set for release in August or September 2025, the film reportedly features Mammootty as a serial killer and has received a U/A 16+ certificate. The screenplay, co-written by Jithin K Jose and Jishnu Sreekumar, marks Jithin’s directorial debut after his work on “Kurup.” The film is the seventh production venture of Mammootty Kampany, with cinematography by Faisal Ali and music by Mujeeb Majeed.
This will be the third outing of Mammootty this year after Bazooka and Dominic and the Ladies’ Purse.
Meanwhile, Mammootty’s name was brought into the controversy in Malayalam movie producers’ association. Noted producer Sandra thomas alleged that Mammootty withdrew from one of her projects after she refused his request to withdraw a case she filed following the rejection of her nomination papers in the Producers’ Association election
The actress-producer says Mammootty called her and asked her to withdraw the case she had filed. Sandra stated that after she made it clear she wouldn’t withdraw the case, Mammootty backed out of a project he had committed to with her. Sandra revealed this in an exclusive interview with Oneindia Malayalam.
