Kerala: Days after actor and influencer Pearle Maaney faced massive online backlash and lost over 3 lakh Instagram followers for posting about the student protests near Jantar Mantar, she came out with a clarification video on July 28, stating that her post had been misinterpreted.

The actress explained every word in her statement on social media, with a Malayalam explanation. Pearle said she shared the post out of genuine concern for the students after seeing them being beaten up.

Although the initial few hours seemed normal, with a majority of netizens supporting her remark, the comment section was soon flooded with negative comments and misinterpretations, the actress claimed.

The actress pointed out that some interpretated her view in very negative manner, noting that someone even said my remarks were like spitting on the graveyards of the freedom fighters.

Pearle also expressed regret for her remark “failed filmmaker.” She clarified that she did not mean the veteran filmmaker Sibi Malayil for her controversial remark, that sparked fierce public backlash.

“Forgive me, I am correcting myself for years, I hope everyone will get better,” the actress added, urging others to continue criticism and that she was ready to change.
