'Failed Filmmaker?' Backlash: Netizens Rally Behind Sibi Malayil After Pearle Maaney's Remark, Actress Loses Followers
Kochi, Kerala: Actress-influencer Pearle Maaney recently faced intense criticism online after making a statement on the ongoing student protests at Jantar Mantar. Several people slammed Pearle for asking the students who are protesting against the NEET paper leak in Delhi to “go back home”
As the comments section flooded with criticism, Pearle responded, saying that her remarks triggered those who could not handle her freedom of speech. She specifically targeted one critic, Joe Malayil, son of National Award-winning director Sibi Malayil.
Calling his seven-slide response a “10-page script” by a “failed filmmaker,” Pearle accused him of adding “chilli powder and ajinomoto” to make it spicy. She also stated that saffron was her favorite color because she loved it on the Indian flag, a comment many interpreted as a political statement, stirring further debate.
With the remark ‘failed filmmaker’, netizens questioned Pearle’s right to call the legendary director who has made several evergreen films such as Kireedam and Dasharatham, for the Malayalam film industry, a failed filmmaker. Joe Malayil soon defended his father, saying his father was raised by no cowards. Many observed that the actress’s remark of failed filmmaker ‘disrespectful’ to the veteran director, rallying behind him collectively.
