UP Police Raid Jantar Mantar Protest Volunteer Junaid's House; Father, Minor Brother Arrested
Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh: Uttar Pradesh police have reportedly raided the house of Muhammed Junaid, a volunteer, who has been serving food and water to the protesters at Jantar Mantar. The police also arrested several members of his family following his participation in the protest.
The police have allegedly taken Junaid’s father and minor brother into custody. The officials have also detained Junaid’s sister’s father-in-law and her husband’s brother. Speaking to online news media Lallantop, Junaid alleged that the police also seized his family’s Aadhaar cards and bank passbooks during the raid.
In its official social media handle, Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) alleged that the UP police is going after its volunteers instead of going after criminals. “Now they are harassing him and his family in UP. Our team is in touch with him, and we will never let them victimise him or his family,” the CJP said, adding that it is no longer shocking how the government responds to dissent.
“We will not be intimidated by these cowards. Every illegal action of the police will be challenged in court,” the party asserted. The reports of raid in Junaid’s house come amid reports of police selectively targeting Muslim protesters in Delhi amid the ongoing demonstrations against paper leak. There has been no official response from Uttar Pradesh Police to Junaid’s allegations. The claims have not been independently verified.
