ADCP Sandeep Lamba Removed From Protest Duty Day After Video Showed Him Slapping Female Protester

New Delhi: A day after videos allegedly showing Additional DCP (North East District) Sandeep Lamba slapping a female protester in Delhi, authorities have removed him from the Jantar Mantar, where the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has been conducting a sit-in march.

The video of the police officer slapping a female protester on her face went viral on social media, triggering outrage and demanding action against the police officer. The Lamba has been asked to go back to his station of posting.

Amid the police crackdown on protesters, Lamba was allegedly seen slapping a female protester, which triggered massive backlash from the public. Students have alleged that the Delhi police used exessive power against the protesters with lathi-charge and tear gas shells, and even certain prohibited materials.

Delhi High Court on Wednesday heard petitions regarding the Delhi police conduct, including policemen without nameplates and badges and even in civilian attire with sticks beating students during the protest. Speaking about Lamba, advocate Sankaranarayanan appealed to the court to summon the officer and make him accountable for his actions. He pointed out that the officer slapped the female protester without any provocation.

“Let’s not be scared to name our thugs in uniform when they deserve to be named. He should be summoned here and asked to be accountable for his actions. It was completely unprovoked. These are the people we put in charge of our police to protect us,” the lawyer said in the High Court.
