Neeraj Ghaywan's 'Homebound' Makes Oscar 2026 Shortlist; 15 Films Remain In Contention
Neeraj Ghaywan’s directed Homebound, has been shortlisted for the next stage of voting for the International Feature Film category at the 98th Academy Awards, making the movie India’s official entry among 15 films that remain in contention for the final nominations for Oscars 2026.
The movie features Ishaan Khatter and Vishal Jethwa in the lead roles. After premiering at the Cannes and Toronto Film Festivals, HomeBound was made the theatrical release in September this year. The movie, which discusses migrant struggles, inherited shame, and the quest for identity, talks about two friends in rural India chasing police jobs for dignity, exploring poverty, caste, and pandemic-era struggles.

On its website, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) confirmed the shortlist, stating that the fifteen films will advance to the next round of voting in the International Feature Film category for the 98th Academy Awards. “Films from 86 countries or regions were eligible in the category,” the AMPAS noted.
