With a whopping 13 nominations, Oppenheimer swept the Oscars with seven awards including Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor.
At the 96th Academy Awards, Robert Downey Jr scored his first Oscar with the Best Supporting Actor award while Cillian Murphy, despite an intense competition, secured his first Best Actor award and a standing ovation from the audience.
The other stand-out winner was Poor Things which won four awards including Emma Stone’s second Oscar for Best Actress. The UK film The Zone of Interest secured two wins including Best International Feature Film.
Despite ten nominations and speculations of Lily Gladstone’s possibly becoming the first Native American woman to win the category, Killers of the Flower Moon was shut down with no wins. While Barbie got eight nominations, it took home only one Oscar for Best Original Song
Held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles on March 10, the Academy Awards was hosted by comedian Jimmy Kimmel for the fourth time now. Notably, several major celebrities including Billie Eilish donned the “Artists for Ceasefire” pins to raise awareness and lend support to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
