In what has turned into a viral bit from the 96th Academy Awards, John Cena is all over social media. Well, almost all of John Cena.

Hosted by comedian Jimmy Kimmel, the star-studded event had everyone on the edge of their seats with an intense competition among films like Oppenheimer and Poor Things for the various categories. But one of the bits that stole the show involved wrestling legend John Cena.

Before announcing the Best Costume Design category, Jimmy Kimmel made a reference to an incident at the 1974 Oscars when a streaker, later identified as Robert Opel, ran across the stage while flashing a peace sign. Kimmel said, “Can you imagine if a nude man ran across the stage today? Wouldn’t that be crazy?” repeating the line as a cue for Cena’s entry. Just then, the wrestler popped his head out from the corner of the stage and said, “I changed my mind. I don”t want to do the streaker bit. I just don”t feel right about it. It”s an elegant event, you know, you should feel shame right now for suggesting such a tasteless idea.” Kimmel replied, “It’s supposed to be funny.”

“The male body is not a joke,” quipped Cena. When Kimmel walks off the stage, Cena makes his way across the stage, a step at a time, with a strategically placed, oversized envelope to hide his modesty. With a chiselled body and an embarrassed face, Cena observed, “Costumes…they are so important. Maybe the most important thing there is.”

While the audience couldn’t contain their applause and hooting, a laughing Margot Robbie has also gone viral for her reaction to Cena.

The comical bit has taken the internet by storm, with fans of the wrester-turned actor appreciating Cena’s commitment to the joke. One X user observed, “That’s a great way to bring significance to the best costume award, haha. Thinking outside of the box,” another user said, “Well, that would definitely be a memorable Oscars moment!”
