Police Seize Ganja From Rapper Vedan's Flat In Kochi

Ernakulam, Kerala: Police reportedly seized ganja from Indian rapper and songwriter Vedan, also known as Hirandas Murali, on Monday. The drugs were found in Vedan’s flat at Thrippunithura Hill Palace during a raid, according to a report by local media Reporter TV. Vedan has been taken into police custody following the raid.

Police conducted the search after receiving information that Vedan and his friends were gathering in the flat. At least nine persons, including Vedan were present in the flat.

Following the development, it is reported that Vedan’s show has been removed from state government’s fourth anniversary celebrations to be held in Idukki. Speaking about the search, Thrippunithura Station House Officer (SHO) AL Yesudas told local media that nine persons including Vedan, who were in the flat, were arrested. Police also recovered around nine lakh rupees from the flat. The rapper had admitted that he has used ganja.

Vedan recently hit headlines with his remarks surrounding the recently released movie, Empuraan. During a concert in Kozhikode, the rapper took an indirect dig at the central probe agency, Enforcement Directorate (ED), for its raids against Empuraan director Prithviraj Sukumaran and producer, Gokulam Gopalan.

“This is the era where ED Raid came to do cinema. You should have a sense of what’s going on around you. I’ll go home after singing two more songs, but you should be aware of what’s happening. Be calm, understand the surrounding things. “Our ancestors were blind to these issues, and now, we’re seeing the consequences,” Vedan said, referring to Empuraan, which sparked right-wing fury for its depiction of the Gujarat riot.
