Rani Mukerji Responds To AR Rahman’s ‘Communal’ Remark, Says THIS
Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji has shared her perspective on composer AR Rahman’s recent comments, firmly stating that she believes the Hindi film industry remains one of the most secular and merit-driven spaces in the country.
Rani, who is currently gearing up for the release of Mardaani 3, addressed the issue during a promotional interview, where she was asked about Rahman’s remark suggesting that his work opportunities in Bollywood have reduced due to changes in the industry over the last few years.
AR Rahman’s Daughters React Amid Row Over His Bollywood Remarks
“I have never seen discrimination here,” Says Rani.
She said that in her three-decade-long career, she has never encountered discrimination based on religion or caste. According to the actress, Bollywood has always judged people primarily on their talent and dedication.
She shared that the film industry gave her everything she has today and emphasised that she speaks from personal experience. Rani added that, for her, hard work and audience connection have always mattered more than background or identity.
“Here, your work speaks louder than anything else,” she said.
When questioned about the presence of internal groups or power circles within Bollywood, Rani chose to distance herself from such discussions. She explained that she prefers to focus only on her work and personal life.
At this stage, the actress said her priorities are clear: her films, her child, and her family. She believes engaging with industry politics only distracts from creativity and personal peace.
A R Rahman’s ‘Communal Thing’ Remark And The Clarification: All You Need To Know
The debate began after AR Rahman, in an interview with BBC Asian Network, revealed that he has received fewer projects from Bollywood in recent years. He linked this slowdown to broader changes in the Hindi film industry over the past eight years.
Rahman also hinted that decision-making power may now lie with people who are not creatively driven and suggested that there could be a communal angle involved, though he clarified it was never expressed openly toward him.
