Sookshmadarshini, which hit the big screen today, starring Basil Joseph and Nazriya Nazim, has been receiving positive feedbacks from moviegoers. The film, directed by MC and produced by Sameer Thahir, Shyju Khalid, and AV Anoop, is being hailed as engaging, especially during the first half by the film reviewers.
While many called the movie’s first half engaging and captivating, some tagged the second half lagging. Reviewing Sookshmadarshini, OTT Play observed that the movie was an engaging suspense thriller, keeping the viewers on the edge of their seats and highlighting the craftmanship of the writers of the movie. It also lauded the performance of the cast as one of the tops. “The writers effectively use the trope of women in the neighborhood to unravel the mystery while also keeping everyone, including its antagonists, on the edge,” the media house added.

Nazriya’s acting as the neighborhood sleuth is brilliant, opines the review while underscoring Basil’s acting prowess too. “Basil too deserves credit for picking a character that is a far cry from anything he has recently played while balancing the sombre and dark shades,” the media house noted. Referring to the other cast, it said that not a single character feels unneeded throughout the movie as they are all essential to the plot.

Media house Timeline Daily analysed that the filmgoers might need a little patience to enjoy the Nazriya Nazim-Basil Joseph thriller, given that the first half has inadequacies. But, as the reviews highlight, the movie gains a pace with more details on the characters and the story in the second half.
“The movie’s entire plot is dealing with honor killing that happens with one aristocratic family’s pride comes in the way of a lesbian relationship,” adding that the viewers were left to guess to deduce who is the real villain and motive for the crime till the end, and it feels like one is cheated at the end when you connect the dots. But the review, however, described the treatment as “good for a crime thriller, anyway.”
News portal OnManorama opined the film is “refreshing,” adding that it broke all cliches. It also praised the plot, music, and the cast. It lauded the performance of both the lead actors.
