Reviews: Varshangalkku Shesham Is Not One Of Vineeth Srinivasan’s Best?

Edited by Fathimathu Shana

Vineeth Srinivasan’s Vanrshangalkku Shesham hit theatres today. The film portrays huge star cast including Pranav Mohanlal, Dhyan Srinivasan, Aju Varghese, Basil Joseph, Nivin Pauly and many more. Movie goers opined that there seems to be a gap in the film and the portrayal of effortlessness and ease in a relationship still falls short. However, it is Nivin Pauly who steals the show with his monologue, answering the criticism he himself, as an actor, encountered in recent years and the funny take on it.

Reviews say Varshangalkku Shesham is not one of Vineeth Srinivasan’s best. According to Indian Express, the attempt to cook bromance with Pranav Mohanlal and Dhyan Srinivasan backfires the film, as the two lacks chemistry. It said, “the moments intended to depict their growing bond and friendship fail to leave an impact, either because the actors lack a real-life rapport or they aren’t talented enough to portray a believable friendship. The overt efforts to portray Pranav as cute and capitalise on his perceived charm, along with the artificial dialogues, exacerbate the situation, making everything appear quite staged”. However, Nivin Pauly saved the charm by playing an “exaggerated and caricatured version of himself named Nithin Molly”.

According to The Hindu, Varshangalkku Shesham fails to deeply affect its core tale about the changing shades of relationship between Venu and Murali because of the “weakly-written conflicts”. The review said, “at times, the film feels like a tribute to those who chose not to sell out and stood for their artistic ideals, but one wishes there was better writing to convey this”. It also agreed that Nivin Pauly takes head on all the things that he was lampooned with on social media, and completely owns it” as Nithin Molly.
