Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali is “doing absolutely fine”, his family confirmed on Wednesday, dismissing rumours that he had suffered a heart attack on his 63rd birthday.

Speculation began circulating on social media claiming that the director had been hospitalised at Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital in Mumbai after a reported cardiac issue. However, his family clarified that there is no cause for concern.

In an official statement shared through Bhansali Productions, the family said, “Mr Sanjay Leela Bhansali is doing absolutely fine. He has gone in for a routine medical check-up, and there is no cause for concern. We sincerely appreciate the love, care, and concern shown by everyone.”

The director also spent a major part of his birthday working on his upcoming film, Love & War. The period drama stars Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal in lead roles.

Reports suggest that the film’s shooting schedule has been extended, making it Bhansali’s most ambitious and expensive project so far. Despite the long filming schedule, the filmmaker continues to remain actively involved on set.

His father, Navin Bhansali, was a film producer, while his mother, Leela Bhansali, deeply influenced his artistic sensibilities. He later adopted his mother’s name as his middle name as a tribute to her. Bhansali studied at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune, where he developed a strong foundation in filmmaking and storytelling.
