Just days before the release, actor Santhanam’s upcoming horror comedy sequel DD Next Level has landed in a controversy for hurting religious sentiments. A complaint has been filed against the film over the controversial lyrics of its single, Kissa 47.
The controversy surrounds the film’s recently released single, Kissa 47, which includes the phrase “Govinda Govinda,” commonly associated with Lord Perumal. The complainants alleged that the use of this religious reference in a comedic context is offensive and disrespectful to Hindu sentiments.
A petition has been submitted to the Salem City Police Commissioner seeking a ban on the film and against actor Santhanam. As the film is scheduled to hit theaters on May 16, this complaint has sparked concern over potential legal hurdles for the film’s release.
Santhanam reacts to the controversy
Responding to this issue, actor Santhanam, in his recent interaction with the media, said that the makers had followed the instructions of the censor board and had made appropriate changes in the film. He also explained that the song has no relevance to God and it was curated only to describe the character.
The actor also clarified that the film has no intention to hurt feelings or to disrespect the beliefs. Being a devotee of Lord Perumal, the actor considers the song a lucky charm. Moreover, the actor also expressed his confidence in facing the issue legally.

Titled Kissa 47, the vibrant single of the film adapted the tunes of the devotional song Govinda Govinda. Since the phrase was repeated constantly throughout the song, it has now landed in this legal hurdle. The song received great attention among the audience, with many enjoying its vibrant composition. However, many viewers have expressed their concerns over this remix of the devotional song.
The fourth installment of the DD horror franchise was written and directed by S. Prem Anand and jointly produced by actor Arya’s The Show People and Niharika Entertainment. Amidst legal issues and unwavering support, the film will hit theaters on May 16.

This upcoming horror thriller has already garnered wide attention from the audience through its hilarious trailer. Apart from Santhanam, the film also stars Selvaraghavan, Kingsley, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Geethika Tiwary, Yashika Aannand, Kasthuri Shankar, Nizhalgal Ravi, and Rajendran.
Dipak Kumar Padhy has done the cinematography of DD Next Level, and Ofro has scored its music. Bharath is in charge of editing, and AR Mohan has handled the film’s art direction.
