Biryani is not just a dish but an emotion for most of the people in India. And this emotion is the one which got served the highest this year by home delivery partner Swiggy. This aromatic, flavourful dish has topped the list for past eight consecutive years.
As per the report released by the food delivery platform on Thursday, India ordered 2.5 biryanis per second in 2023. For every 5.5 chicken biryani, one vegetable biryani was ordered. This year began with 430,000 biryanis order, reports business standard.
This interesting data was released in the “How India Swiggy’d 2023 – unwrapping India’s year in on-demand convenience” report based on the orders placed from January 1 to November 23. Among all the cities, Hyderabad ranked first in ordering the dish.
On the day of world cup 2023 finals, Indians ordered 188 pizzas per minutes. While on Durga Puja day, Gulan Jamun won the race overtaking Roshogollas with over 7.7 million orders. All time favourite Masala Dosa topped the list in vegetarian order for all nine days of Navarathri.
The maximum number of orders were placed by user accounts in Chennai, Delhi, and Hyderabad, who placed over 10,000 orders each. Bangalore was the ‘Cake Capital’ of the country, with 8.5 million orders placed for chocolate cakes alone. The highest number of chocolate cakes were ordered on Mother’s day.
The highest spend, by value, was from a user in Mumbai who ordered food worth Rs 42.3 lakh. The single highest order was worth Rs 31,748 from a user in Chennai. While, the biggest order by volume was placed by a user from Jaipur by placing an order of 67 on Swiggy Instamart in a single day. The fastest delivery was in Delhi, where Swiggy Instamart delivered a packet of instant noodles in just 65 seconds to the user.
Swiggy is an Indian online food ordering and delivery platform which was founded in 2014. It is headquartered in Bangalore and operates in more than 500 Indian cities as of September 2021.
