14 Lok Sabha MPs Suspended For The Remainder Of The Winter Session

Parliament has suspended 13 Lok Sabha MPs for “disorderly conduct” in the house. The suspended MPs are TN Prathapan, Hibi Eden, Dean Kuriakose, S Jothi Mani, Ramya Haridas,  Benny Behanan, Manickam Tagore, Kanimozhi, PR Natrajan, V K Shrikantam, K Subramanyam, SR Pratiban, S Venkateshan and Mohammed Javed. Among them, 9 belong to the Congress, 2 from the CPIM, 2 from the DMK and one from the CPI. They have been suspended for the remainder of Winter session which will conclude on December 22.

At first, Five MPs belong to Congress party were suspended. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi moved the resolution for suspension in the middle of sloganeering by the Opposition. “With your permission, I move the following: That this house has taken a serious note of the conduct of TN Prathapan, Hibi Eden, S Jothimani, Ramya Haridas and Dean Kuriakos in utter disregard of the house of the chair. The above mentioned members should be suspended from the service of the house for the remainder of the session,” Minister read the resolution.

Earlier in the day, citing “ignoble misconduct” Trinamool Congress MP Derek O”Brien has been suspended from the Rajya Sabha for the remainder of the session. Following the major security breach on Wednesday, both houses of the parliament were witnessing huge uproar from Opposition demanding discussion on the Parliament concerning the security breach, and also urging statement from the government.

The huge security breach incident occurred on Wednesday, the day coincided with the 22nd anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror attack. It was on afternoon, during Zero Hour in Parliament when two men jumped from the visitors’ gallery and ran into the Lok Sabha chamber. The men were carrying smoke canisters sprayed unidentified, yellow colour smoke. Both the intruders were arrested; including two, five have been arrested, and eight Lok Sabha Personnel were suspended. Ministry of Home Affairs has ordered an enquiry of parliament security breach incident, and set up an enquiry committee.
