A video has gone viral on social media in which a young woman introduces her father as her husband and claims that they were married in a traditional ceremony at a temple. The 24-year-old woman accompanied by her father in the video, unapologetically claims, “This is my father, and we’re happy after getting married”.
Her 50-year-old who is seen standing beside her confirming their relationship adds, “Yes, she is my daughter. So what is the problem in this?”
A bystander in the video asks them if they feel any shame for marrying each other, to which they respond dismissively, “In which era are you living? Why be ashamed?”

Revealing their intention in recording the video, the couple states that they wanted to silence the critics who had gossiped about their relationship. “Our marriage is our answer to those who talk behind our backs,” she said.
The video was shared by Jai Singh Yadav of the Samajwadi Party and the post has now garnered over 541.2K views. Although the video is believed to date back to before 2020. The video was shared by TikTok user ksraja2702. However, TikTok was banned in India in 2020. When some of the viewers had dismissed it as a public stunt, others condemned the video outright. It sparked fresh debate about legality, morality and societal norms.
One of the users highlighted the legal implications, noting that under the Hindu Marriage Code, such a union is considered incestuous and illegal, making the marriage invalid under Indian law.
