Chennai, Tamil Nadu: Public fury erupted on social media after a senior Tamil Nadu police officer was seen grinning and laughing while addressing the media on Coimbatore girl rape-murder case briefing on Monday, May 25.
The video of the incident has gone viral on social media, drawing outrageous reactions and criticism online. The officer, Inspector General of Police (West Zone) R V Ramya Bharathi came under sharp rebuke after the clip, recorded ahead of a press briefing on the sexual assault and murder of a young girl, went viral online.

The viral video shows the officer laughing and interacting casually before speaking to reporters about the sensitive case. Outraged users on social media questioned the police officer’s morale because of the alleged lack of sensitivity to the crime that shook the entire state.
The users questioned the officers’ sensitivity and professionalism during a discussion on such a tragic incident, after the girl child was reportedly found dead near a pond after going missing while playing outside her home.

There is a statewide outrage over the abduction and sexual assault and murder of the 10-year-old girl, with criticism directed at the ruling TVK government. Chief Minister Vijay has ordered swift action in connection with the case.
