BJP leader and former Union minister Smriti Irani, who lost the recently held Lok Sabha elections from Amethi, recently vacated her official bungalow at 28 Tughlak Crescent in Lutyens’ Delhi. She was defeated by the Congress leader Kishori Lal Sharma with a majority of more than 1.5 lakh votes.
In response to the brutal trolling unleashed in the past by the former Amethi MP against Rahul Gandhi, who represented the seat from 2004 to 2019 until defeated by Irani, reactions from several social media users were sarcastic and insulting directed at the BJP leader vacating the accommodation after poll defeat.

In a social media post today, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi asked the people to refrain from using derogatory language and being nasty towards Smriti Irani, noting that both winning and losing happen in life. The Congress leader also pointed out that humiliating and insulting people is a sign of weakness, not strength.
“Winning and losing happen in life. I urge everyone to refrain from using derogatory language and being nasty towards Smt. Smriti Irani or any other leader for that matter. Humiliating and insulting people is a sign of weakness, not strength,” he wrote on his X handle.

In May this year, Smriti Irani, while speaking to the NDTV said, “Don’t give him too much importance.” She was referring to Rahul Gandhi. Pointing out the decision of the Congress party to field Rahul Gandhi from Rai Bareli, Irani had claimed that the Congress party had declared her victory in Amethi with its decision to field Kishori Lal Sharm.

In addition, making headlines that the Union Minister is chasing Rahul Gandhi in Wayanad too, Irani had gone all the way to Kerala’s Wayanad, vowing to defeat the Congress leader from the southern constituency.
However, defying the poll predictions, the 2024 general election saw Congress regaining grassroots clouts in many constituencies, including Amethi. Congress’ Kishori Lal Sharma, a Gandhi family loyalist, defeated the Amethi sitting MP, while Rahul Gandhi won two seats he contested – Rai Bareilly and Wayanad – with a margin of over three lakh votes.
