A Throwback From India's Political History - With A Kashmir Connection

Safia Abdullah Khan, daughter of Indian politician and President of Jammu & Kashmir National Conference Farooq Abdullah, shared a throwback picture that features a part of India’s political history in one frame. She said she can’t help but remember “a visit many moons ago”, as Rahul Gandhi is visiting Kashmir ahead of the state elections scheduled to be held next month. The picture was said to be taken in December 1986, at Tangmarg. The picture, which has gone viral since it was posted Thursday afternoon, features a former prime minister, two former chief ministers of Jammu and Kashmir, several former presidents of two of India’s prominent political parties and the current Leader of Opposition (Lok Sabha).

The group photo also featured Farooq Abdullah, Priyanka Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Safia Abdullah, Sara Abdullah, and Omar Abdullah.

Journalist Nidhi Razdan commented that it was indeed a “lovely photo”, to which Khan said she would like to share some stories with Razdan.

Responding to the comments, Khan said the picture was taken in December 1986 from Tangmarg, as they could not go to Gulmarg. She said she could remember the days like yesterday, and it was like just two friends with their families.

Playing along with a funny comment, when one user asked why does Omar “looking so tan? Did he skipped applying sunscreen tat day”, Khan said he might have been skiing, “And remember sunscreen wasn’t so readily available in those days”.
