Actor Vijay Congratulates Rahul Gandhi For His Elevation As Opposition Leader In Lok Sabha
Tamil actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay, popularly known as ‘Thalapathy,’ today congratulated Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his appointment as the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha.
The Congress MP was today named as opposition leader since it is the first time after 10 years the Lok Sabha will have a Leader of Opposition.

Since 2014, other than the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), no party has secured the minimum seat to claim the position. However, the Congress party increased its tally from 52 seats to 99 in the recently held Lok Sabha elections, becoming eligible to appoint an opposition leader in the lower house of the parliament. Rahul Gandhi won two seats – Wayanad and Rae Bareli – with over three lakh majority in each seats. The former president of the grand old party chose Rae Bareli to represent in the 18th Lok Sabha and dropped his former seat Wayanad.
Taking to his social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the actor-turned-politician wrote, “Congratulations to Hon’ble Thiru. @RahulGandhi Avargal for being unanimously elected by @INCIndia and its allies as Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha. My best wishes to serve the people of our Nation.”

The Leo star On 2 February 2024, started his political party named ‘Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam,’ with the motto ‘all are equal by birth.’
The Tamil superstar has also expressed his intention to kick start the political journey by entering the 2026 Tamil Nadu assembly elections. In a political landscape where myriads of players are struggling to exist, the ideological significance and impact have been discussed around the actor’s new party.

However, as an actor with a huge following, attached to his films representing the poor sections of the people, the potential support he may receive cannot be played down, according to political experts. Many analysts believe that the huge fan base can create an impact on the destiny of TVK as well as Tamil Nadu politics.
In March this year, the actor had called the Citizenship (Amendment) Act “unacceptable.” He also called on the Tamil Nadu government against the CAA implementation in the state, noting that it would disrupt the social and religious harmony of the country.
Vijay’s 2023 release Leo had collected more than 500 crores, becoming a blockbuster, while the actor earned applauds for the lead role he played. One of the highest paid actor in Kollywood, his upcoming movie GOAT (The Greatest Of All Time) has been given much hype, leaving the fans in an adrenaline rush to watch Thalapathy’s performance in the sliver screen. The fans are eagerly waiting for the release of the supposed sci-fi thriller, which is scheduled to hit theatres in September this year.
