Assam Congress has come up with a new corruption allegation against the former Congress leader, now Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sharma on Saturday on social media platform X. Congress have taken up the issue soon after a report by The Cross Current regarding the land scam was published.

As per the report, a substantial part of agricultural land measuring 50 bigha 2 katha 19 lecha at Darigaji village at Kaliabar under Borbhogiya Mouza in Nagaon district of Assam was “mysteriously reclassified” as industrial land just a month after the piece of land was bought by the chief minister’s wife.

The report alleges that the CM’s wife received a subsidy of Rs 10 crore from the Ministry of food processing to establish industry at the mentioned place.

According to the documents submitted at the time of filing nomination in 2021, the CM submitted that the family holds no agricultural land but his wife holds two plots in Guwahati, one is at Noonmati and another is at RG Baruah Road and also two normal lands in North Guwahati area, as per the report.

Gaurav Gogoi, Congress MP from Assam  commented against the CM on X. He claims that the Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma used his influence to help his wife’s firm get Rs 10 crore as part of credit linked subsidy.

“PM Modi launched the Kisan Sampada scheme to double the income of farmers of India. But in Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma used his influence to help his wife’s firm get Rs 10 crore as part of credit linked subsidy. Are Central government schemes meant to enrich BJP?” he posted on X along with a document.

Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, wife of Himanta Biswa is the managing director of Pride East Entertainment media house. It is one of the North India’s leading Assamese news and entertainment channel.

Assam Congress has asked the Chief Minister to break the silence and respond to the claims.

“Greed can cripple even the brightest of minds. While thousands of people are dying of hunger, one family”s only motto has been to syphon public money into their pockets…” Assam Congress wrote on X.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh came up saying that the BJP washing machine is at its full speed.“The BJP’s Washing Machine in Assam is spinning not ‘lahe lahe’ but at full speed”, he posted on X.
