Meet Diella: Albania Appoints World's First AI Minister To Remove Corruption

Tirana, Albania: For the first time in the world, Albania has appointed an artificial intelligence-generated minister to its cabinet. The country’s Prime Minister, Edi Rama, took the AI minister into the cabinet to eradicate corruption.

The AI minister, known as Diella, took charge on Thursday, with the Prime Minister introducing the female AI as a member of the cabinet. According to the Prime Minister, Diella will manage all decisions related to public tenders, and ensure that the tenders will be 100 percent corruption-free and every public fund submitted to the tender procedure will be transparent.

Initially introduced in January, the AI-digital assistant dressed in traditional Albanian attire, helping citizens navigate the official e-Albania platform, offering access to documents and services. The AI-model has so far facilitated the issuing of 36,600 digital documents and delivered nearly 1,000 services via the platform.

Diella was initially introduced in January as an AI-powered digital assistant, designed to resemble a woman dressed in traditional Albanian attire. It was meant to help citizens navigate the official e-Albania platform, which offers access to documents and services.

The AI minister, the Prime Minister said, will ensure that the public tenders will be 100 percent free of corruption. Notably, awarding of tenders has long been a source of corruption in the Balkan country of 2.8 million people.

Albania has been aspiring to join the European Union for long, and corruption has been a key factor in the country’s bid to join the bloc. It is reported that Albania will secure membership of the EU in the next five years as negotiations conclude by 2027.
