Senior Diplomat Akhilesh Mishra”s Letter to Editor for Irish Times, criticising their editorial is now getting attention. The content of the letter was an eulogy on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his rule. Akhilesh Mishra serves as the Indian high commissioner to Ireland.
In the letter titled, “Modi enjoys unprecedented popularity” he writes that PM Modi”s popularity and profile is known worldwide due to his ideal “personal character”, “integrity”, and “thought-leadership”. His personal life inspires millions of ordinary people, Mishra denotes and lists down the development India witnessed under his leadership. “The people of India are excited to witness the vibrancy of democracy in action on the ground,” Indian High Commissioner adds.
Ambassador @AkhileshIFS’s rejoinder to @IrishTimes” highly biased & prejudiced editorial [Modi tightens his grip” April 11, 2024)], casting aspersion on Prime Minister of India, Shri @narendramodi, Indian democracy, law enforcement institutions & “Hindu-majority” people of India. pic.twitter.com/Oh5rFly92Z

Akhilesh Mishra then states that PM Modi helming anti-corruption drive paved the way for his popularity. The steps adopted against corruption gave a sense of reassurance at the grass-root level. Thus, strong action were taken and recoveries were made from the rich and powerful elites who operated with “a sense of entitlement of impunity”. All corruption cases are dealt with the established methods, where judicial remedies to the affected parties are ensured as well.
Continuing further, Akhilesh Mishra says that Hinduism as an ideology is “inclusive and fundamentally pluralistic.” He states that Hindus do not represent a “monolithic vote bank” and are driven by diversity of thought, ways of life, and encompasses divergent political beliefs.
“They regularly vote to power non-“Hindu nationalists”. Even now Mr Modi”s BJP rules only in 12 out of 28 states of India. This can happen only in “Hindu majority” India,” Indian Ambassador writes in conclusion.
Akhilesh Mishra, since being held a bureaucratic office, his blatant and unapologetic praise of Prime Minister Modi by criticising the previous governments, particularly at a time when elections are around the corner, is not viewed as “appropriate” by netizens.
