First Time Since Independence: PM Modi To Shift Office Out Of South Block
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to move into his new office this week, with the shift likely to take place on Makar Sankranti, January 14. The new office complex, named ‘Seva Teerth’, has been developed as part of the ambitious Central Vista Redevelopment Project.
The Seva Teerth complex has been designed to house three key institutions: the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the Cabinet Secretariat, and the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS).
Each is functioning from separate buildings within the same premises. The PMO will operate from ‘Seva Teerth-1’, a modern structure featuring upgraded workspaces and ceremonial rooms built around the theme of seva (service).

The move marks a historic moment, as the PMO has functioned from the South Block since India’s Independence in 1947.
The Cabinet Secretariat has already shifted to ‘Seva Teerth-2’ in September last year, while ‘Seva Teerth-3’ will house the office of the National Security Advisor.
Once vacated, the iconic South and North Blocks will be transformed into a public museum named ‘Yuge Yugeen Bharat Sangrahalaya’, TOI reported. An agreement for technical cooperation has already been signed with France’s Museum Development Agency to support the project.

The entire Seva Teerth (also known as the Executive Enclave) has been constructed by Larsen & Toubro at a cost of Rs 1,189 crore, covering an area of 2.26 lakh square feet.
A new official residence for the Prime Minister is also under construction nearby.
