Nandana Deb Sen, daughter of renowned economist Amartya Sen, dismissed fake news regarding her father’s death.
It was on her social media page on X (formerly known as Twitter), Ms. Sen clarified the reports on Nobel Laureate’s death as untrue. She wrote: “Friends, thanks for your concern but it’s fake news: Baba is totally fine. We just spent a wonderful week together w/ family in Cambridge—his hug as strong as always last night when we said bye! He is teaching 2 courses a week at Harvard, working on his gender book—busy as ever!”

In the post, she has also shared picture of her and her daughter along with Mr. Sen.
The news went viral when a Twitter handle named Claudia Goldin – apparently of this year”s Nobel Prize winner in Economics – posted about his death. Many leading media houses carried the news based on the twitter account which turned to be a fake account un to the said economic historian.
Born in Shantiniketan, West Bengal on November 3, 1933, Mr Sen is the first Indian economist to received Nobel Prize in Economics. He is also a recipient of top civilian honours including Bharat Ratna, France”s Légion d’Honneur, and National Humanities Medal. In a career spanning over seven decades, his contributions in the field of welfare economics and development theory is still influential. Mr Sen currently serves as a professor of economics and philosophy at Harvard University.
Meanwhile, veteran economist is also involved in a legal battle with the Visva-Bharati University authorities over a land dispute, relating to illegal occupation of land.
