"Best-Governed State": P Chidambaram Pokes PM Modi, CM Yogi On UP Exam Fiasco

Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister P Chidambaram criticized the cancellation of the Uttar Pradesh police constable recruitment exam, highlighting the plight of over 43 lakh candidates who appeared for the examination. The exam was held for the selection of 60,400 posts of police constables in the state.

In a scathing remark, Chidambaram questioned the governance claims of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, referring to Uttar Pradesh as the “Best-governed state.” He lamented the hardships faced by the aspirants who traveled long distances in crowded buses and trains, spent their money, and endured various difficulties only to witness the cancellation of the exam.

Expressing concern over the impact on the aspirants” financial situation and employment prospects, Chidambaram criticized the decision, labeling it as a case of robbing the poor of their hard-earned money and leaving them in a state of unemployment for an extended period.

Highlighting the staggering ratio of unemployed youth to available job opportunities, with over 43 lakh candidates competing for 60,400 posts, Chidambaram painted a grim picture of Uttar Pradesh under BJP rule.

Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board or UPPRPB has announced on Saturday that the UP police constable recruitment exam held on February 17 and 18 has been cancelled. Many candidates and political parties have demanded cancellation of the exam and a re-test after question paper leak was reported right after the board held the test last week. The official statement regarding the cancellation of the exam said they have asked the government to track down the real culprits of the paper leak and file FIR against them.

The UP police constable exam cancellation notice also said the re-test will be held in six months and the aspirants will be provided free transportation in the state government’s bus transport service.

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took to X and mentioned the orders regarding the cancelation and re-examination. CM reiterated about zero compromise over the sanctity of examination and strict actions against the culprits.
