Canada accuses India of using “organised crime elements”. While the India-Canada row started to simmer again, Canadian police said that India is targeting South Asian communities, especially pro-Khalistani element in Canada. Speaking to reporters, Canadian police pointed finger at the Bishnoi group for the said crimes. It also added that the group is connected to the Government of India.

Canada has expelled six Indian diplomats, accusing them of being part of a “network carrying out criminal activities” in the country. The diplomats were expelled after police collected evidences that they were part of an Indian government “campaign of violence”, said Reuters citing Canadian government sources.

India also expelled six Canadian diplomats, including the acting high commissioner – the equivalent of an ambassador – in New Delhi.
Ottawa has alleged that “Indian agents” have actively used Lawrence Bishnoi criminal group to carry out murder and extortion “against Canadian citizens on Canadian soil”.
Commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Mike Duheme, said that investigations have revealed that Indian diplomats and consular officials based in Canada leverage their position to engage in activities such as collecting information for the Govt of India, either directly or through their agents and other individuals who acted voluntarily or through coercion.

He also added that the evidence also shows that a wide variety of entities in Canada have been used by agents of the Government of India “to collect information”. Some of these individuals & businesses were “coerced & threatened” into working with the Govt of India, Duheme said during the press conference.
The police said Indian government use these information to target the members of South Asian community, especially pro-Khalistani element in Canada.
This evidence was presented directly to the Government of India officials urging their cooperation in stemming the violence and requesting our law-enforcement agencies work together to address this issue, said Duheme.
