'BJP Chief Tasked With Giving "Senseless Replies" To Official Letters': Jairam Ramesh

Congress General Secretary in Charge of Communication, Jairam Ramesh, today alleged that the task of giving “senseless and intemperate” replies to official and personal letters sent by Opposition leaders has been assigned to BJP president JP Nadda by the Union government.

In an X post today, following BJP president JP Nadda’s response to the letter sent by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge to Prime Minister Modi, noting the “grave threats being hurled at the Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi”, Jairam Ramesh stated that the BJP President was given the task of sending an intemperate and senseless reply.

The Rajya Sabha MP also reminded the alleged harsh reply given by the Health Minister to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to his letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over COVID-19 in 2021. Singh had written to the Prime Minister suggesting five measures to battle the COVID crisis, including ramping up vaccination and boosting the supply of medicines.

Replying to the Congress chief’s recent letter addressed to Prime Minister Modi, Nadda on Thursday said that Kharge’s remarks were far from the truth, and that it appeared from the Congress president’s letter that he has either forgotten the misdeeds of Gandhi and other leaders or have deliberately ignored them. Nadda further accused Rahul Gandhi of a history of abusing Prime Minister Modi and members of the Other Backward Classes (OBCs), and siding with anti-India forces. In the letter to Prime Minister Modi, Kharge had urged him to disciple his leaders, while pointing out the violent statements and threats that the BJP leaders hurled against Rahul Gandhi in public.

“There was once a PM who, for seventeen years, replied to each and every official and personal letter sent to him—as over 100 volumes of his Selected Works will testify,” Jairam Ramesh ended his tweet, adding that the self-proclaimed divinities are different, he supposes.
