Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala: A British warplane has made an emergency landing at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport in Kerala, reportedly to refill fuel. The UK warplane made the landing in the southern Indian state, after the pilot requested an emergency landing as the plane ran low on fuel on Saturday night, June 15, local media, Malayala Manorama, reported.
The plane is awaiting permission from the Indian government to depart. The warplane is reportedly an F-35 aircraft, one of the most sophisticated modern multirole fighter belonging to the US and its allies. The plane, a Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning fighter, The aircraft’s stealth capabilities, electronic warfare systems, and data-sharing infrastructure are central to the US, UK, Israel and NATO’s modern air warfare.

The fighter reportedly took off from an aircraft carrier, before landing in Kerala’s capital city. There is only one pilot on board the British warplane. However, it can only be refueled with permission from the Indian Army. The jet remains parked in the Thiruvananthapuram Airport.
The 5th-generation stealth fighter is part of the UK’s Prince of Wales aircraft carrier group, which is currently deployed in the Indo-Pacific and recently conducted joint drills with the Indian Navy. As per aviation expert, the incident as unusual but not unprecedented, and it is not clear why the aircraft was unable to recover onto the Prince of Wales. Neither the UK Ministry of Defence nor Lockheed Martin have issued statements on the specifics of the emergency landing.
It is reported that the Indian Air and Army officials will reach the spot and inspect the situation. Refueling of the warplane will be carried out only after that. The Air Force may conduct safety checks.
Only after this will they will refuelling be done. Safety checks should also be completed under the leadership of the Air Force. There was only one pilot on board the plane.
