A 25-year-old woman software engineer, R Nandhini, from Thalambur, Kelambakkam on the southern outskirts of Chennai was brutally murdered by her former classmate who had done gender surgery to allegedly marry the victim. The gruesome incident happened on the birthday of the Nandhini. Police have, however arrested the suspect Vetrimaran, an MBA graduate who underwent sex change and became a transexual man. He was previously known as Pandi Murugeshwari.
The culprit revealed to the police that the reason for burning the girl to death was his disappointment since Nandini refused a relationship with him. Vetrimaran had also suspected that Nandhini has developed relationships with others.
Earlier, both the victim and the suspect had studied at the same girl’s school In Madurai. After Vetrimaran underwent the sex surgery to marry the victim, Nandhini had made it clear to Vetrimaran that their relationship was not going to work. After that, despite minor issues, both maintained communication and a degree of friendship over time, police reports.
“They were friends and were living together in Chennai. No indication yet of any sexual assault. Whether Vetrimaran had displayed violent tendencies earlier is not clear. An investigation is on,” NDTV reported citing Tambaram Police Commissioner Amalraj.
After finishing her studies, Nandini was doing a job in Chennai, staying at her uncle’s house there. On the day of Nandhini’s birthday, Vetrimaran called her and invited her to have a catch-up. Vetrimaran reportedly behaved decent, by gifting her clothes, taking her to the orphanage, and making donations there before bringing her to an isolated area to commit the unanticipated crime. After he tied her hands and feet with his bike’s chain, Vetrimaran took a knife and slit Nandhini’s neck and arms. Then he burnt her by pouring fuel on her. However, the police have arrested Vetrimaran with charges of murder.
