Cold Wave Conditions Intensify In North India; IMD Issues Warning

New Delhi: Since Wednesday, an intense cold wave has been intensifying across northern parts of the country. While night temperatures dropped below freezing point in the Kashmir Valley. The minimum temperature in Srinagar stood at minus 1 degree Celsius.

The IMD has issued an orange alert for very dense fog in Delhi. Temperatures dropped significantly on Thursday morning in Delhi with 6.4 degrees Celsius. The national capital recorded 8 degrees to 11 degrees Celsius around the same time for the last few days.

The Air Quality Index (AQI) of Delhi remained in the ‘poor’ category on Thursday morning.

The northern parts of the country are expected to receive rainfall from January 10 to 12. Cold day conditions are expected in isolated areas in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan today.

According to the IMD, there is also a possibility of rain and snowfall in the northwest parts due to a western disturbance. Minimum temperatures are likely to drop by nearly 2 degrees Celsius in northwest India for two days and might rise by 2-4 degrees later.

In the national capital, the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) established 235 pagoda tents to offer shelter to the homeless. Night shelters have also been set up across various locations in Delhi, including AIIMS, Lodhi Road, and the Nizamuddin flyover.
