New Delhi: The new Vande Bharat Express train to operate in cold regions have been unveiled by Indian Railways. With specialised features, the train is all set to start its operation in challenging winter conditions, especially in Jammu and Kashmir. This initiative coincides with the forthcoming opening of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL), which will connect the Kashmir Valley to the rest of the country.

The officials reported that the route for the new Vande Bharat Express train is currently under inspection by the Commissioner of Railway Safety inspection. The train has special climate-related features as compared to the other 136 Vande Bharat Express trains currently running in different parts of the country, Railway officials told the media. The additional features will enable to meet up with the operational challenges and passengers’ amenities in acute weather conditions of Jammu and Kashmir.

“It has advance heating systems which prevent freezing of water tank and bio-toilet tanks, provide warm air for vacuum system as well as laboratories and ensures air-brake system functions optimally for smooth operations even in sub-zero temperatures,”  the Hindu quotes as Dileep Kumar, Executive Director (Information & Publicity) Railway Board is saying.

Continuing further, Kumar said that the train possesses embedded heating elements in the windshield so that the driver’s front lookout glass gets automatically defrosted so that clear visibility is ensured. In addition to these features, it has all other facilities that the existing Vande Bharat trains already have.

Railways said in a press release that through connecting the Kashmir Valley more effectively to the national railway network, the train becomes a symbol of India’s dedication to bridging geographical and economic gaps.

However, when the train service will be started has not been decided at present, but the necessary arrangements have been made.
