As Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi”s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra is facing serious security crisis in Assam, Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge wrote a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah extending concerns regarding the same. Mallikarjun Kharge, in the letter written last night, listed out some instances of security lapses that have allegedly occurred over the past few days.
This move comes after a clash broke out between Congress workers led by Rahul Gandhi and police in Assam’s Guwahati on Tuesday. Subsequently, a First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against Congress MP and other Congress leaders.

Mallikarjun Kharge mentioned about the need to provide adequate security to Rahul Gandhi, who is entitled to a Z+ security. “On the 22nd of January, 2024 in Nagaon district, BJP workers blocked Shri Rahul Gandhi”s convoy, coming extremely close to him, and creating an extremely unsafe situation,” letter read. As the alarming situation progresses, he accuse that Assam Police has “systematically stood by” and alleged that even allowed BJP workers to come closer to the convoy of Rahul Gandhi “endangering his physical security and that of his team”.
Continuing further, Congress chief said that though evidence regarding these instances are available no initiative has been taken so far to arrest the miscreants or even to conduct investigation in many cases. Since the risks are increasing as the Yatra proceeds as planned, Kharge in his letter requested Home Minister”s intervention; “we request your intervention to ensure that the Chief Minister of Assam and the Director General of Police, Assam ensure that no such untoward incident takes place which may lead to grave personal injury to Shri. Rahul Gandhi or any members of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra,” Kharge concluded the letter.
Bharat Jodo Nyay Jatra is currently in Assam and will enter its 10th day today.
