During the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra on Tuesday, a clash broke out between Congress workers and police in Assam”s Guwahati. The incident happened after Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yathra was denied permission to enter the state’s capital Guwahati. On its X (formerly twitter) account, Congress wrote that, “Scared by the loud voice of “Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra”, the Assam government is not desisting from such cowardly and shameful acts”.

Congress said in its X post that BJP should not forget that it is voice of the people and it cannot be crushed or suppressed at any cost. “These thorns in our path are increasing our courage and making us stronger. We are not afraid of anyone. “Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra” continues…” added Congress.

Clashes broke out after Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma allegedly announced that Rahul Gandhi’s Bharath Jodo Nyaya Yatra will not be allowed to enter the state capital, and police stopped the rally outside the city.

Congress workers took it upon themselves to take down the barricade placed and shouted slogans against the Assam Chief Minister. In videos shared by Congress leaders, the party workers were seen confronting police outside the state capital.

Himanta Biswa Sarma called Congress workers’ act as “Naxalite tactics”, which according to him are “completely alien to” his state’s culture. He said he instructed Assam DGP to register case against Rahul Gandhi for “provoking the crowd & use the footage you have posted on your handles as the evidence. Your unruly behaviour and violation of agreed guidelines have resulted in a massive traffic jam in Guwahati now”.

Addressing the gathering outside the Guwahati border, Rahul Gandhi said that the rally of J P Nadda, BJP leader, took place through the same route but was not sopped. Talking to the gathering near Guwahati, Rahul Gandhi said, “the rally of Bajrang Dal and JP Nadda took place through this route but our march has been stopped. Congress workers have removed the barricades installed on the road. Therefore do not think that Congress worker is weak”. He also added that since Congress is law abiding, the Yatra was continued through route which was permitted for them.
