After issuing an order earlier, the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is currently in the custody of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), today issued his second order while in custody directing the Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj to address the medicine and diagnostics tests shortages at Mohalla clinics and hospitals.
The AAP leader had earlier ordered to ensure sufficient water tankers in the drought-prone area ahead of the summer months. He also issued instructions to the bureaucracy including the chief secretary and other officers regarding the issue.
Talking about the Chief Minister’s order, the Health Minister Bharadwaj said that even though Kejriwal is in custody, he is concerned about the health of the people. The Health minister said that Arvind Kejriwal was saddened by the shortage of medicines and the non-availability of free diagnostic tests in hospitals. The Health minister then added that the Chief Minister despite being in jail believes that the people should not face any difficulties in India.
Bharadwaj further explained the shortage of critical medicines such as drugs for blood pressure and diabetes.
On the instructions received from the Chief Minister, Bharadwaj said that his department would work on a “war footing to fix the situation” in the hospitals. “On behalf of CM, I want to assure the people of Delhi that even though your CM has been put in jail he is only thinking about you,” said Bharadwaj.
However, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Harish Khurana opined that the Delhi Chief Minister should resign and let someone else handle the situation while accusing him of playing the victim card. The BJP leader further noted that Arvind Kejriwal is in jail because of corruption for which former deputy CM Manish Sisodia has not got bail for the last 14 months. He also said that Kejriwal used to say that people who face corruption should resign, noting that the Delhi chief minister is not resigning from his position.
Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the central agency on March 21 over his alleged involvement in the Delhi excise policy scam case. After the arrest, the AAP leaders and ministers stated that the Chief Minister would continue to rule Delhi from the jail.
