India has an alarming case of dowry deaths occurring in which many women have lost their lives as a result of the harassment. A dowry murder has been reported in the city of Noida. A woman from Greater Noida was allegedly beaten to death by her husband and family for being unable to meet the dowry demands of her in-law”s family, reports NDTV. The husband”s family has demanded an amount of Rs 21 lakh cash and Fortuner.

In the complaint filed to the police, Deepak, the victim’s brother alleged that she called her family on Friday and informed them that her husband Vikas along with his parents and siblings had beaten her. To check on her, when they reached Karishma, the victim’s home, they found her dead.

Vikas married Karishma in December 2022 and the couple lived with Vikas’s family in Kheda Chauganpur village of Greater Noida’s Ecotech-3. At the time of their marriage, according to Deepak, the family gave gold worth Rs 11 lakh as well as an SUV to the groom’s family. But not being satisfied with the amount they have received from the bride’s family, Vikas’s family began demanding more. And in the name of dowry, Karishma was mentally and physically abused.

Deepak further claimed that the abuse worsened when she gave birth to a girl. To sort out the issue, Panchayat meetings with two families were also held at Vikas’s village. Karishma’s family then paid another Rs 10 lakh to his family but the abuse didn’t stop.

Recently, Vikas came up with his new demand for a Fortuner car and another Rs 21 lakh from Karishma.

Following the complaint filed, a case of murder for dowry has been registered against Vikas, his father Sompal Bhati, his mother Rakesh, sister Rinki, and brothers Sunil and Anil. The police have so far arrested Vikas and his father.
