A fire broke out at a wholesale cracker shop at the intersection of Tilak and Abids roads in Hyderabad’s Bogulkunta area on Sunday night. Videos of fire engulfing Paras Fire Crackers, with crackers going off, went viral on social media.

Reportedly, the incident lasted for an hour before four firefighters, who received a call at 9:18 pm, doused the fire. Based on the videos that surfaced online, shortly before the shop was up in flames, there was a stampede as patrons and workers tried to escape from the fire.

According to the Deccan Chronicle, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials had visited the shop on Sunday morning. A GHMC official stated that the shop owner was asked to apply for a trade license and was warned that the establishment would be sealed if he did not comply with the fire safety regulations and temporary trade licenses.

As people began running for their lives, flames engulfed the shop with rockets, and other fireworks lit up the entire scene. At least 23 firefighters evacuated the building and rescued over 12 people, reported the Deccan Chronicle.

Two women were rushed to a nearby private hospital after they sustained burn wounds on their hands. The police said their condition is stable.

Nearby shops and at least seven parked vehicles were also reported damaged due to the blazing fire.

A fire accident was registered by officials, and efforts are reportedly underway to apprehend the shop owner.

The origin of the fire remains unconfirmed; however, initial reports suggest there could have been mishandling of the crackers or a short circuit. An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause.
