Karnataka lawmaker Prajwal Revanna who flew to Germany last month amidst the allegation of sex crime was arrested in the early hours of Friday after he landed in Bengaluru.

He was arrested by a team of women cops led by a woman IPS officer and was later taken to the CID office for interrogation. The women cops were sent as a symbolic message by the Karnataka Special Investigation Team (SIT). The video which was circulated after the arrest showed that as many as five women police officers were present while making the arrest.

The JD(S) leader who is seeking reelection as the NDA candidate from Hassan Lok Sabha constituency flew to Germany in April when explicit videos of him allegedly abusing multiple women started circulating on social media. Hassan went on polls in the second phase of the Lok Sabha election.

Against Revanna, the nephew of ex-chief minister HD Kumaraswamy, three rape cases have been registered so far. He was warned by his grandfather and JDS patriarch HD Deve Gowda and told him to return to India and surrender or will have to “face family”s anger…”

Before landing in Bangalore, Revanna had earlier released a video in which he said that he would appear before the probe team on May 31 and further claimed that the cases charged against him were false. He in his video said that he went into depression and isolation following the allegations.

Revanna is now being interrogated by the SIT probing the case at the CID office in Bengaluru.

When the obscene video of Revanna came out, he left for Germany on April 27 using a diplomatic passport. The FIR against him was registered on April 28.
Meanwhile, the BJP has distanced itself from Revanna and the investigation. The scandal had led to a political storm with Congress and other non-BJP-parties campaigning across India against the BJP’s protection of the rape accused.
