INDIA Bloc Plans Adjournment Motion On NEET Row Today

The opposition parties of the INDIA bloc alliance have decided to move adjournment motions in both the House of Parliament on June 28 over the alleged paper leak in the National Entrance cum-Eligibility Test (NEET) and in other public exams.

The decision was taken in a meeting of the Opposition bloc held at the official residence of Congress President and Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge. Thus, the inaugural session of the 18th Lok Sabha is expected to turn stormy.

The Opposition parties unanimously decided to raise NEET, Agniveer, unemployment, and other issues in Parliament. As per the source, a unique strategy will be employed in both Houses.

Both the Houses are scheduled to debate the motion of thanks to the President’s address on Friday. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said after the meeting, “Several issues were discussed today in the meeting…There will be a debate on all the issues in the Parliament whether the President’s address or the election of the speaker”.

Soon after attaining power, the Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has been under fire from the opposition over allegations of irregularities in the medical examination NEET and cancellation of UGC-NET, CSIR UGC-NET and NEET-PG examinations.

President Droupadi Murmu in her presidential address to a joint session of Parliament said the government is committed to fair investigations.

“Whether it is competitive examinations or government recruitment, there should be no reason for any hindrance. This process requires complete transparency and probity. Regarding the recent instances of paper leak in some examinations, my government is committed to a fair investigation and ensuring strict punishment to the culprits,” she said.

While responding to the President’s address, Kharge said that the Modi government cannot run away from its responsibility by just simply saying that ‘we should rise above partisan politics’. “The youth is demanding justice. Union Education Minister will have to take responsibility for this. Every second youth in the country is unemployed, and no concrete policy to eliminate unemployment has emerged from this speech,” he added.

Meanwhile, AAP and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha proposed that the Opposition bloc will raise the issue of the arrests of their leaders, Arvind Kejriwal and Hemant Soren. It was agreed to be raised in the next week’s session.
